Baseball / Softball Frequently Asked Questions

Q.When does registration occur?
A. Baseball and Softball registration usually begin in February and lasts until early March.
Spring Soccer registration is usually in the month of January and lasts until early February.
Fall Soccer registration usually begins in July.
Q.What are the registration fees?
A  Registration fees are evaluated each year for each sport.  It is always the intention for the Arlington Rec. Council to keep the costs of our sports at the absolute lowest prices possible.  We account for league fees, umpire/referee fees, and the village of Arlington field maintenance fees.  The costs of Jerseys and hats are separated out during the registration processes because it depends on the age of the player and weather or not a jersey is included in the registration fees.  As an overall phalosophy, when players have to purchase jerseys or hats, they can wear them for as long as they still fit and are in good shape from year to year.  We do pass on the on-line registration fees established by the website hosting company for the use and convenience of the credit card payment system.  If you wish to avoid those fees, you may mail your check into the Arlington Rec. Council P.O.Box.
Q.What are the league boundaries?
A. To eligible to play, each participant must be a student within the Arlington School District, or reside with a parent or guardian who resides in the Arlington School District. (i.e. home school or private school kids).  The only exception to this rule is when there are not enough players signed up for a specific age division and we partner with other surrounding communities to form a complete team.
Q.What does my registration include?
A. Arlington Rec Council's mission is to provide the lowest cost youth sports we possibly can.  Each registration fee goes to cover the cost of the team equipment, balls, umpires, and includes a fee assessed by the Village of Arlington for the use and upkeep of the facilities.  Jerseys and hats are an extra cost, but not required to purchase each year.
Q.Does my child need to tryout? When will evaluations/tryoutsbeheld?
A.There are no tryouts, all participants play!  After instructional / machine pitch age, each player moving up to the next age level will perform basic baseball / softball fundamentals skills in front of the head coaches.  The coaches assess the players and draft teams.  This is how Arlington Rec Council avoids having "stacked or A & B" teams.  We have found this method to be very successful, as Arlington consistently fields very competitive teams.  For Soccer, players are divided into teams by a committee who creates teams based on number of registered for each age and fairly distributes talent to avoid stacked teams.
Q.What forms of payment do you accept?
A.You can pay using your credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express) or you can mail in a personal check or cash.  The credit card convenience fees are passed onto the players during the registration process.
Q.Do you provide discounts?
A.  We do not provide any family discounts at this time
Q.Are there additional volunteer requirements?
A.  The Arlington Rec. Council does require that each parent (or family member) take a turn or two to work the concessions stands.  The money generated from the concession stand sales directly help keep our division fees as low as possible.  It does take an adult from each participant to make this happen.
Q.When will I be contacted by my new team manager?
A.  For all age divisions above instructional, usually coaches will begin contacting their team to begin scheduling practices near the end of March for practices to begin in April.  Instructional divisions don't get started until June, so communications will go out within the first couple of weeks of May.
Q.Are you accepting manager & coach applications, too?
A.  If you are interested in helping coach (head or assistant) please complete the volunteer information within your account home screen.  The Arlington Rec. Council will review each applicant and determine where the needs for the teams are.  Completing a volunteer registration does not guarantee an official coaching position.
Q.I'm presented with multiple division options for registration. Which division should I choose?
A. In some cases, our system presents options based on your child's league age and gender.  Because some of our divisions overlap in age groups, it's likely you will be presented with two different divisions to play in. Please select the available division your child last played in (or wish to play in) and our Commissioners will make a proper placement based on your child's previous experience and grade.
Q.What if I still have more questions?
A. If you still have more questions, never hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
Q.I signed up but decided not to play, how can I request a REFUND?
A. Refund Policy:
ON OR BEFORE May 1st, 2019:
100% of your registration fee will be refunded.  Jersey and Hat fees are NOT Refundable once the orders have been placed.
ONCE SEASON BEGINS
